Dr. Wilbur Lam, Chief Medical Officer of Cellia Science, Elected to the National Academy of Medicine

This prestigious recognition is a testament to Dr. Lam's exceptional contributions in the realms of point-of-care diagnostics and development of platforms to study cellular mechanics and blood biophysics.

NAM focuses on pivotal challenges in health, science, medicine, and related policies, catalyzing constructive initiatives across multiple sectors. Working collaboratively with the National Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Engineering, NAM offers impartial, objective analysis and guidance to the nation, engaging in multifaceted problem-solving and aiding informed public policy decisions. In the announcement of his election, NAM recognized Dr. Lam for “outstanding contributions in point-of-care, home-based, and/or smartphone-enabled diagnostics that are changing the management of pediatric and hematologic diseases as well as development of microsystems technologies as research-enabling platforms to investigate blood biophysics.” Furthermore, it was also noted that he “leads national/NIH efforts to assess diagnostic tests (including those for COVID-19) for the entire country.”

In addition to his role at Cellia Science, Dr. Lam is also the W. Paul Bowers Research Chair at the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering and serves as a Professor of Pediatrics and Associate Dean of Innovation at Emory University School of Medicine. His dedication and leadership have played a pivotal role in leading national and NIH efforts to assess diagnostic tests, including critical evaluations for COVID-19, for the entire nation. His contributions to the field have been instrumental in advancing healthcare and saving lives, especially in the face of the ongoing global pandemic.
