FAYETTEVILLE, AR - Zebra Analytix, Inc.—a VIC Technology Venture Development portfolio company—announced today that John A. Michalek has joined the company as Chief Executive Officer and Board Member to lead the development and commercialization of its miniaturized analytical instruments and consumables.
“John provides a wealth of technical and business experience bringing game-changing products to the marketplace, and I’m delighted to hand off the baton to him,” said Michael Artinger, former interim CEO and current board Chair. “VIC forms new companies based on innovation licensed from top universities around the world and provides management resources during the first two to three years of the start-up. As Zebra nears the launch of its first generation, miniaturized portable gas chromatography system, we felt the timing was ideal to have John take the helm.”
Zebra Analytix is using revolutionary advances in microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) manufacturing to create versatile instruments at a fraction of the cost and size of traditional technologies. Future versions will incorporate modular, interchangeable components—such as pre-concentrators, purge and traps, multi-level separation columns and tandem detectors—enabling nearly unlimited flexibility and versatility at point-of-need to identify most analytes in a variety of settings and use scenarios.
“I am excited at the opportunity to work with Zebra Analytix and introduce their disruptive technologies to the chromatography world,” said Mr. Michalek. “We will be bringing products to market that will change the competitive landscape. Our innovations will expand the reach of chromatography into applications beyond traditional techniques and offer new solutions to scientists never before realized.”
